So I was all packed, up at 6am on January 7th and headed to the airport.
My flight from Cincinnati to D.C. went just fine as the flight from D.C. to Madrid. The flight to D.C. was very empty. Only 9 people were on it. That was nice though, because I could spread out!
The flight to Madrid was a different matter. It was only an 8 hour flight, but the problem was the arrival time. Spain is 6 hours ahead. We arrived in Spain at 7:30 am, or 1:30 am Cincinnati time. Yikes! Very little sleep occurred on the plane sadly, because the flight attendants made announcements about every hour. Regardless, I have only taken a small 1 hour nap today so I'm doing well in the fight against jet lag! The plane was an Irish flight company so everyone had slight accents. I found that amusing! Also with the individual TVs, I got pick my own TV shows as well as a movie. Can't get much better than that.
When we arrived, our RD met us outside of baggage claim and drove us to our one night hotel in Alcalá de Henares. The area is very historic and pretty. Upon arrival we were allowed to shower and nap for just an hour before taking a walking tour of the town. We toured earlier and all got phones or SIM cards so we can contact each other.
As for now, I'm relaxing in my hotel room waiting until 6:30 pm when we're all going out for Tapas as the full group of students! Welcome to Alcalá de Henares, Spain!!!
